NHS Direct AGM to be live web streamed

NHS Direct is live web streaming its Annual General Meeting (AGM) as part of its multi-channel approach and commitment to giving patients and stakeholders across England access to the meeting.
The AGM is open to the public, but if people can’t attend, it will be available in a virtual capacity at www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk to view either live, at 10.30am on Monday 26 July, or after the meeting.
Nick Chapman, NHS Direct Chief Executive, says:
“We are a national organisation, and not everyone is able to travel to attend our AGM. The Board decided that live streaming the AGM was the most effective way of giving everyone - including patients, staff, members, journalists and colleagues working in other parts of the NHS - a chance to be involved.
“This style of meeting also fits with our commitment to a multi-channel healthcare approach. Over the last year our web services have played an important role, and they will continue to be a big part of our future. It’s therefore only right that our corporate business is also conducted online.”
The meeting will include an opening statement from NHS Direct’s Chair, Joanne Shaw and an introduction to the Trust’s Annual Report & Accounts 2009/10 from Chief Executive, Nick Chapman, speaking about the year’s activities.
Video case studies and interviews
The live web streaming will include video case studies and interviews with a patient, staff and external partners, including Dr Maureen Baker, Lead on Emergency Planning for the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) talking about joint working on the National Pandemic Flu Service. Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust Chief Executive and Lead for Psychological Practice, will talk about a service NHS Direct provided to assist with the referral process for psychological therapies.
Submit a question to the Board
There will also be an opportunity for participants to ask the Board a question. Questions need to be submitted to board@nhsdirect.nhs.uk by 22 July.
