Welcome to the September 2011 issue of NewsDirect, the e-bulletin that keeps you up to date on what's happening at NHS Direct. We hope you will find it interesting and informative. Feel free to email your comments on the e-bulletin to stakeholders@nhsdirect.nhs.uk.
The Department of Health has written to all Strategic Health Authorities (SHAs) requesting submission of their plans for the roll out of the NHS 111 service. NHS Direct is preparing to work in partnership with Ambulance Trusts and GP OOHs providers in areas where plans to roll out NHS 111 are not finalised.
A new video which explains NHS Direct’s role in delivering the new NHS 111 service is now available, featuring interviews with Dr Ruth Livingstone, GP and Clinical Lead for NHS 111 in the East Midlands and Jonathan Jackson, NHS 111 Programme Manager at East Midlands SHA.
NHS Direct has been selected to train health advisors in other organisations on the use of NHS Pathways to support the roll out of NHS 111. NHS Direct will be working on a ‘train-the-trainer’ basis, allowing organisations to become self sufficient and able to deliver the training to their staff at their own pace.
NHS Direct launched a mobile app at the end of May for Android and iPhone smartphones. The app has now been downloaded nearly 300,000 times across the two devices, and has been used over 680,000 times by patients and the public.
NHS Direct’s Annual Report and Accounts 2010/11 were laid before Parliament on 12 July 2011 and are now available to download from our website, along with the NHS Direct Quality Account 2010/11.
NHS Direct has been invited to speak at a number of conferences and events over the next few months. If you’re attending any of these, we hope you’ll come and see us.
