NHS Direct, in partnership with the NHS Alliance, held a seminar in February 2011 focussed on commissioning urgent care services.
The London-based event attracted health professionals from across the country who are responsible for commissioning services in their local area.
The morning session included presentations from Brian Gaffney, NHS Direct's Medical Director; Rick Stern, Urgent Care Lead at the NHS Alliance; and David Colin-Thome, former Department of Health Primary Care Lead.
In the afternoon, delegates split into groups to discuss the issues and challenges they faced in commissioning urgent care services.
Brian Gaffney said: "Feedback from the seminar was very positive. The event highlighted just how much work needs to be done over the next couple of years. We will work with the NHS Alliance to collate the learning from the day to share more widely with commissioners of urgent care services”.
A report drawing together the learning from the seminar will be available in the May 2011 issue of NewsDirect.
