Welcome to the April 2011 issue of NewsDirect, the e-bulletin that keeps you up to date on what's happening at NHS Direct. We hope you will find it interesting and informative. Feel free to email your comments on the e-bulletin to stakeholders@nhsdirect.nhs.uk.
NHS Direct is planning for a very busy period between Thursday 21 April and Tuesday 3 May 2011 in light of the four day Easter weekend followed by the royal wedding/May bank holiday weekend.
NHS Direct has used its wealth of knowledge about the millions of patients who contact the service every year, to develop new reports for each PCT. These reports will give commissioners valuable intelligence about demand for urgent care in their local area.
NHS Direct has written to the Secretary of State for Health to confirm its intention to become a Foundation Trust from April 2013.
NHS Direct, in partnership with the NHS Alliance, held a seminar in February 2011 focussed on commissioning urgent care services.
NHS Direct, along with other NHS organisations, is increasingly using Twitter to share information about the Trust and its services and to build relationships with patients and stakeholders.
The West Midlands Quality Review Service was impressed that NHS Direct met all of the quality standards applicable to telephone advice service, when it carried out its review in autumn 2010.
If you would like more information about any of the articles in this bulletin or are interested in commissioning services from NHS Direct, please contact your NHS Direct regional director.
