NHS Direct to increase access to its online expert health advice

NHS Direct plans to increase access to its popular online health and symptom checkers by making them available to partner organisations to use on their own websites.

We currently have online health and symptom checkers covering topics including male and female sexual health, contraception advicemental health and colds and flu, which receive around 1 million visits a month. By the end of 2010, we will have over 40 new online health and symptom checkers to choose from.

NHS Direct is now able to offer our online health and symptom checkers to other organisations for use on their own websites. These NHS Direct branded, quality assured tools can appear in their entirety within other organisations’ websites, and can be fully customised to match host websites.

The online health and symptom checkers are available to any public, private or charity sector organisation in England, and are simple to insert into any website. More advanced users can also take advantage of the ‘API feed’ for a fully customised experience on any platform including mobile phone, games console or interactive TV.

All of NHS Direct’s online health and symptom checkers have been developed to reflect the same protocols used by NHS Direct’s telephone advisors so patients get the same experience whether they use the phone or web.
