Nottingham City launch NHS111 service

In each of these pilot areas NHS Direct is delivering:

  • call handling and nurse supervision
  • health information and medicines advice
  • booking GP OOHs appointments where appropriate
  • enabling the dispatch of ambulances where appropriate

In addition, in Luton, NHS Direct is responsible for the overall project management of the service, liaison with local stakeholders and the development of the local Directory of Services (DOS).

Nick Chapman, Chief Executive of NHS Direct, said: "NHS Direct is delighted to be working with the other health organisations in the East Midlands and East of England to test how we can best deliver the new NHS 111 service there. The new service, with its memorable number will make it easier for patients in the pilot areas to access local health services.”

All three launches received significant local media coverage and leaflets promoting the service are now being delivered to households across the three pilot areas.
