Welcome to the December issue of News Direct, the e-bulletin that keeps you up to date on what's happening at NHS Direct. We hope you will find it interesting and informative. Feel free to email your comments on the e-bulletin to stakeholders@nhsdirect.nhs.uk.
Calls to NHS Direct have been significantly higher than expected so a number of steps have been taken to improve service delivery during this busy period.
The new NHS 111 service was launched in Nottingham City on Thursday 18 November followed closely by Lincolnshire on Monday 22 November. In the East of England, NHS 111 was publicly launched in Luton on Friday 3 December.
The development of a new joint telephony ‘conferencing’ capability means that the Diabetes UK Careline can now transfer callers directly to NHS Direct, if and when appropriate.
Simon Burns, Minister of State for Health and MP for Chelmsford and Ed Balls, MP for Morley and Outwood visited our contact centres recently.
If you would like more information about any of the articles in this bulletin or are interested in commissioning services from NHS Direct, please contact your NHS Direct regional director.
The Initial Assessment symptom checker is now available on web-enabled mobile phones. Find out more here.
