NHS Direct helped 223,154 people over the Easter weekend (Friday, 2nd April to Monday, 5th April 2010) via its 0845 4647 telephone service and website.
79,604 people called NHS Direct during this period (compared to 76,380 last Easter) including 1,783 Category C (non-urgent) 999 calls passed to us by Ambulance Trusts. 143,550 visited our website for advice and guidance, including 58,004 alone who used the online symptom checkers.
The busiest day for the telephone service was Good Friday, when the service answered 20,389 calls and online visits were highest on Easter Monday with 40,187 visits.
Over the Easter weekend, 56.8% of calls were completed by NHS Direct without the need for onward referral to another service.
