West Yorkshire Urgent Care

From April 1 2009, NHS Direct will provide a single point of access for urgent care services across the West Yorkshire region, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We will deliver the ‘access and assess’ element of this new service.

Ground-breaking service

West Yorkshire Urgent Care has been commissioned by a group of five primary care trusts (PCTs) in this region and covers a population of over 2 million. The service will be the first of its kind in the UK. It will provide the people of West Yorkshire with a seamless urgent care triage and treatment service.

Patients and members of the public have been consulted widely and have been central to this service development.

Provider choice

Alongside the access and assessment element, each of the local primary care trusts will work collectively to choose a provider of face to face care and treatment from a range of healthcare professionals such as evening or weekend GP home visits and evening or weekend GP appointments.
