The NHS Direct initial assessment symptom checker is now available on web enabled mobile phones.
Go to the web browser on your phone and type in mobile.nhsdirect.nhs.uk
(note: this link will not work if you try to click on it within a normal web browser - you need to use this link from a phone)
You can bookmark this page so you can come back again easily if you need to check your symptoms in the future.
What you see is not an App – we’ve merely reworked the way the NHS Direct website's initial assessment symptom checker is displayed so that they’re ‘tuned’ for mobile phone web browsers.
We’ve streamlined the pages so that you can more easily address the symptoms you have and get advice on what you should do when out and about and not just sitting at a computer.
Depending on your phone contract, a charge for accessing the internet on your phone - usually referred to as data charges - may apply. If you are not sure about the potential charge for accessing the internet on your phone, please ask your mobile network provider. NHS Direct does not charge you to access mobile content.
To keep the mobile symptom checkers as lean as possible, we have not incorporated a feedback facility in this release. We would very much appreciate, however, any feedback you can give, as we are constantly looking to evolve and improve our symptom checkers.
Currently, there is an issue with BlackBerry phones that have multiple web browsers installed – there is a ‘BlackBerry browser’ and an ‘Internet browser’. NHS Direct’s symptom checkers require the internet browser. To change your browser type on your BlackBerry, follow the instructions below:
1. Within your browser window, press the BlackBerry key
2. Select ‘Options’ from the list
3. Select ‘General Properties’
4. Select ‘Default Browser’ and from this list
5. Select ‘Internet Browser’
6. Select the ‘Back’ button and ‘Save’ Changes made
You will now be browsing using a ‘direct’ internet browser rather than a BES environment.
