The Pharmacist Advisors (PhA's) are a new staff group to join NHS Direct.
Pharmacists are experts in medicines and ideally placed to advise patients over the phone. They are caring professionals offering tailored advice in a sympathetic and professional manner.
The PhA’s bring expertise and knowledge from a variety of sectors to NHS Direct. Experience will have been gained from primary care, community pharmacies and hospitals, placing them in good stead to answer a breadth of questions.
As a PhA, you will need to possess excellent communication skills, be methodical and exercise good critical thinking to answer what can sometimes be very difficult questions.
The types of queries dealt with by Pharmacist Advisors include:
Pharmacist Advisors are registered by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and must undertake mandatory training to keep their knowledge up to date.
The role is varied and involves offering clinical advice to colleagues such as Nurse Advisors and Health Information Advisors on complex drug related questions, as well as giving personalised guidance to patients on the phone. PhA’s also undertake project work which supports NHS Direct behind the scenes.
