Dental nurse advisor

• Full-time and part-time
• Locations across England

Being a dental nurse advisor is a varied and challenging role, and you will need to use your dental nurse skills and expertise to the full.

Dental nurses at NHS Direct offer a nurse-led assessment service and provide health and information to callers, so they make full use of NHS dental services.

You will assess patients’ symptoms and needs over the phone and will be supported by our clinical decision software. You will speak to many different people on the phone, so communication skills are a must. You will also:

• Assess patient’s health and wellbeing – specifically dental health issues.
• Identify potential life threatening problems.
• Relate to the needs of the caller using your personal skills and expertise.
• Assess the risk to the dental health and wellbeing in the short and long term.
• Refer patients to other health or dental practitioners.
• Contribute to the wider health agenda, and work to local and nationally set performance targets.

You will be a qualified dental nurse - registered with the General Dental Council. You will also have had experience working as a dental nurse after gaining your dental nursing qualifications.

Ideally you will have some experience of coaching or preceptorship. You will also need to be computer literate and have excellent communication and listening skills.

You will need to be confident and able to think quickly and solve complex dental enquiries in a calm and sympathetic manner. You will also understand the importance of working in a team as well as working on your own.
