Interpreter service

If English is not your first language, NHS Direct provides a confidential interpreter service in many other languages.

To use the interpreter service:

  • Call NHS Direct on 0845 4647.
  • When your call is answered, simply say which language you would like to use.
  • Wait on the line while we connect you to an interpreter.
  • We will then ask you for some information to complete your enquiry. 

Please wait until an interpreter is on the line before you explain why you are calling.

Alternatively, you can ask a friend or relative to make the call for you.
