What is BrowseAloud?

BrowseAloud is a free-to-use computer program that reads website content aloud. As you move the cursor over the words on your screen, they are spoken out loud in a realistic human-sounding voice.

What does BrowseAloud do?

BrowseAloud makes web content more accessible to anyone with difficulties reading, because it has the following features:

  • speaks website content aloud
  • speaks menus and hyperlinks aloud
  • translates words between English and French, German, Italian and Spanish
  • highlights each word as it is spoken, showing you where you are on the page

BrowseAloud features and options are accessed from an easy-to-use toolbar.

You can position this toolbar anywhere on your screen or hide it from view, if you prefer.

Who does BrowseAloud help?

BrowseAloud can help any visitor who requires online reading support. This may include people with:

    learning difficulties such as dyslexia
  • mild visual impairments
  • people who have English as a second language

Will it cost me anything to use this service?

No. BrowseAloud is free to use.

Will it work with my browser?

BrowseAloud works with Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. It does not work with Google Chrome.
