Contact with swine flu

Answer None to this question if you have cold or flu symptoms and want further advice, but you have not

  • been in contact with a known or suspected case of swine flu
  • lived in an area of the United Kingdom with sustained spread or
  • been to a high risk country

To select this option you need to have had close contact with a person known to have, or be suspected of having, swine flu whilst they had symptoms AND within the last 7 days.

  • stayed overnight or lived with an affected person

Greater Glasgow, Birmingham and London have been identified as areas of the United Kingdom with sustained (continuing) person to person spread (community transmission) of swine flu.

Outside of the UK , the only places with sustained (continuing) person to person spread of swine flu are

  • Mexico,
  • United States of America (USA)
  • Canada, and
  • Australia

At present it is only travel to these places that is considered to put people at increased risk of catching swine flu.
