Our comments on a new 3 digit number service

Nick Chapman, Chief Executive of NHS Direct, says:

“The memorable three-digit number seems likely to offer improved ease of access to care and advice over the telephone for patients and the public.

“NHS Direct is looking forward to working closely with the Department of Health and the rest of the NHS to develop this, using our 10 years’ experience of providing care and advice remotely through the internet and over the telephone.

“NHS Direct will be supporting the proposed pilots of the new number, as and when these are agreed. These will involve us working with other partners to show how we can work together to provide a seamless service for patients.”
