Following the Department of Health announcement in December 2009 that three Strategic Health Authorities will pilot the new urgent care number, 111, NHS Direct has been working at both a national and local level to help design the solutions for the 3DN pilots.
We have helped to shape the detailed specification for the pilots and are now working with the pilot sites to map call flows through the 3 digit number and develop the telephony and technical architecture to support these flows.
NHS Direct is playing a different role in each of the pilot projects in terms of call handling, nurse assessment and providing health information.
