More MPs come to see NHS Direct at work

In September 2010 we reported that a number of MPs had visited NHS Direct over the summer, who were keen to find out how health services are provided within their constituencies.  Since then, we’ve been pleased to welcome more MPs to our contact centres.

Simon Burns, Minister of State for Health and MP for Chelmsford, visited our Chelmsford contact centre, at the invitation of Nick Chapman, NHS Direct Chief Executive and Joanne Shaw, NHS Direct Chair.  He was given a tour of the contact centre, met staff, and listened in to calls to understand fully how our service works.

Ed Balls, MP for Morley and Outwood visited our Wakefield contact centre. After a presentation on NHS Direct’s core service and our contribution to the West Yorkshire Urgent Care service, Ed Balls listened in to calls and talked to staff. In his blog, he stated that he was “extremely impressed with the length and breadth of the services we offer” and the care we give to all callers.
